Orthodontic treatment can be successful at any age, and adults especially appreciate the benefits of a beautiful smile. One of every five patients in orthodontic treatment is over 21.

Various treatment modalities are available today for adults. These include traditional stainless steel braces, tooth colored braces, braces placed on the inside (tongue side) of the teeth, and/or the Invisalign system which are computer-generated invisible aligners that move teeth. Archwires and ties are often largely unnoticeable today as well. Adult orthodontic treatment is not only done to align teeth; it is also often done to help the primary care dentist and/or the patient's dental specialist with their treatment. Examples of this include uprighting tipped teeth so a bridge or implant can be placed, moving a tooth up or down so that a crown can be placed, and properly spacing and/or closing spaces between teeth so that bonding can be done. Adult orthodontics is also used to help alleviate periodontal disease (gum and or tooth-supporting-bone problems), improve future periodontal health and may help patients who have jaw pain caused by an improper bite. Adult orthodontics often requires superb communication between our office, the patient, their primary care dentist, and their dental specialists. Our excellent inter-office communication makes patient treatment much more understandable and causes less apprehension for our patients while greatly increasing the odds that a terrific result will be attained.
